I took the photograph for "Poppy" in my back yard last summer. These giant orange flowers have very dark, almost black interiors, but the photos come out with a great variety of colors not seen by the eye. After I've cropped and edited the photo, I print it onto fabric, and then seal the fabric with a light coat of matte medium (which doesn't change the texture of the fabric, but makes it more durable). Then I stitch beads onto the fabric and embroider parts of the picture. All the stitching is done by hand. The piece is mounted on a 2-inch-deep wooden panel, so you can set it on a desk or table or hang it on the wall. The panel sides are painted black.
